Box of Matches (マッチ Matchi) is an item available in the game Shenmue.
How to Obtain[]
Find[]
- A set of matches can be found at the Hazuki Residence in the altar room beside the altar.
- Another set of matches can be found in the Hazuki Residence Basement on one of the shelves.

Shenmue[]
The Box of Matches are used at the Hazuki Residence Basement to light up the room. Once the candle is in place, a match from a Box of Matches must be used to light the candle. The candle will eventually dwindle and expire after use.
Shenmue II[]
The Box of Matches can be transferred to a new Shenmue II save from a cleared Shenmue I save with them in the inventory. This can only be done in the Dreamcast version and the 2018 re-release Shenmue I & II, since Shenmue I was never released on the original Xbox.
They can be sold for money at the Green Market Pawnshop in the Green Market Quarter, Wan Chai and at the Great View Pawnshop and Kowloon Pawnshop inside the Great View Building in the Thousand White Quarter, Kowloon. Other than that, they can be kept to have as a part of the collection.
Trivia[]
- Although the Box of Matches aren't normally obtainable in the Xbox version of Shenmue II, they can be added to your inventory through modding since the code to enable them is still within the game's files.
