Catching Leaves is a mini-game featured at Man Mo Temple in Scarlet Hills, Wan Chai, Hong Kong in the game Shenmue II. During Ryo Hazuki's investigation about the Wulinshu book locked in the Man Mo Temple library, Xiuying Hong will appear and only let Ryo see the book if he can prove he is calm and to test his concentration through catching leaves.
Gameplay[]
The Catching Leaves mini-game event is played through a first person perspective. Ryo is standing in front of the tree in the Man Mo Temple yard with leaves falling from it's branches. As the leaves fall, using the directional pad to look around, the perspective will focus in on the falling leaves. As a chime sounds the leave in focus will have motion blur effect - This is when the player must strike. It is possible to catch multiple leaves at once. After you catch three leaves in a row, you win. Xiuying will give Ryo the key to the bookshelf in the library. Completing the event will also award the player the "Autumn In Wan Chai" achievement/trophy in Shenmue I & II.
Later after receiving the Big Silver Medal and joining Izumi Takano to visit the Duck Race, Ryo can return to Man Mo Temple and practise catching leaves again. This time, he will find a falling feather and notice a Duck within the tree. Ryo strikes the tree to make the duck fall and he can use the duck to participate in the Duck Race - Winning this will earn the Big Gold Medal.
