Counter Elbow Assault (Hànzì: 外門頂肘, Pinyin: Wàiméndǐngzhǒu, On'yomi: Gaimonchōchū) is a powerful Bajiquan hand move Xiuying Hong teaches Ryo Hazuki before he leaves Wan Chai to head to Kowloon in the game Shenmue II.
Description[]
The Elbow Attack thrusted on the side while avoiding the attack.
How to Obtain[]
It is not possible to miss learning the move, as learning it is part of the main story.
Before Ryo leaves Wan Chai, he visits Xiuying Hong at Man Mo Temple where she teaches Ryo the move with the assistance of Hanhui Liu as a sparring partner.
Use[]
Shenmue II[]
Ryo ends up defeating the Yellow Head leader Dou Niu with this move during the final battle on the rooftop of the Yellow Head Building once he recalls Xiuying's advice to keep his mind as "clear as a polished mirror".
Input[]
Shenmue II[]
- ⇦,X+A (DC, XB, XBO)
- ⇦,▢+✕ (PS4)
In Shenmue II, this move also shares the same input as Backfist Willow so one or the other must be chosen from the move list.
Shenmue III[]
- X+△+△ (PS4/PS5)
- A+Y+Y (PC)
Trivia[]
A command QTE demonstrating the combination of buttons needed to master the move.
- If the player fails to successfully perform the move for awhile while Xiuying is teaching you it, a Command QTE will appear demonstrating the combination. Once that's succeeded, the move will be mastered and the story will continue. [1]
- The move is a part of Ryo's moveset at the start of Shenmue III, however, the move is now simply a strike that is a faster version of the Elbow Assault move and not a counter move.[2] This is due to the game having a much lower budget compared to the first two games.
