Summary[]
Ryo is shown awakening from a vivid dream where he relives his father being murdered by Lan Di.
At Bailu Village, Shenhua walks with her baby lamb and on the way, runs into someone who asks if she's going to the market. Shenhua says that she isn't and is heading to see her Grandmother Yeh. When she sees Yeh, she delivers the medicine that had for her and in return, Yeh allows Shenhua to have the rice win that she has. Thankful for the offer, Shenhua says that her father will be pleased with it. Yeh then continues telling the kids surrounding her of the poem about a dragon that will rise from the earth, creating clouds around it. A phoenix would then descend from the sky and create purple winds from the flapping of its wings. One of the kids asks Shenhua if she's heard of it before and Shenhua confirms that she has and finishes the rest of it to the kids. Another kid then asks Shenhua who the person is that's mentioned in the poem, but before she's able to answer, the scene skips to the Hazuki Residence.
Within his room, Ryo looks at the letter addressed to his father that was set by a man known as Yuanda Zhu. A flashback of when Ryo first received the letter from Ine-san is shown. In it, Ryo realizes that the text is written in Chinese and asks the Chinese citizens around the town if they can read it, but to no avail. He soon runs into Nozomi and tells her that he's looking for someone who can read Chinese, but avoids telling her as to why. Still, however, Nozomi offers her help, and reluctantly, Ryo accepts it.
Meanwhile, Chai still reeling over his loss against Ryo, plans to get the mirror that's still in Ryo's possession. Back to Ryo who runs into Yamagishi sitting on a bench at Sakura Park. He gives his condolences for the loss of his father and asks permission to one day visit his house and pay his respects to his father. Ryo allows it and before Yamagishi leaves, asks if it's true that he known his father for ages. Yamagishi answers that he only knew him since he moved to Yokosuka and Ryo asks if he knew of his father's life before he arrived in Yokosuka. Unable to answer that question due to never learning the details, Yamagishi asks why Ryo is so curious and he reveals to him the letter addressed to his father. Hearing this, Yamagishi asks Ryo if he's trying to dig up his father's past and when Ryo confirms it, he advises Ryo to let the police handle the rest and then goes on his way. Walking home, Ryo recalls what the the old man from the restaurant said to him about the Chinese Mafia.
Visiting the Bar Yokosuka, Ryo meets with Saijo there and asks him where the people of the harbor hang out, specifically the ones who are illegal immigrants. After a brief pause, Saijo tells Ryo to try looking at the Heartbeats Bar, a dive of a place that's popular with the wrong crowd. He also warns Ryo to be careful when he visits the place, Ryo thanks Saijo and leaves for the place. Before he enters the place, Ryo beats up two tall muscular men and inside of the bar, Ryo causes a scene with some of the patrons. Once Ryo beats the men there, he promises the barkeep that he'll never return in exchange for information regarding the Chinese Mafia. The barkeep informs Ryo that he should seek out the man known as Charlie.
The next day, Ryo asks around town about Charlie's whereabouts and Charlie catches wind of it. Soon Ryo runs into a crying little boy who can only get his ball back until he leads Ryo to a man called "Charlie". Led to his location, Ryo confronts Charlie and his men and reveals his motives of wanting to know about the Chinese Mafia that uses the harbor. Ticked off that's the reason why Ryo wanted to see him, Charlie sends his goons against Ryo. After Ryo deals with them, Charlie flees the scene and is pursued by Ryo who is unknowingly tailed by Chai.
Now with Nozomi, the two continue their search for someone who can read his father's letter, but still to no avail. Before separating at the Aida Flower Shop, Nozomi mentions that the entrance exams are closing in. But she then mentions that Ryo is already enrolled at a university at Yokohama and mentions that she's looking at schools in that area too. Ryo, on the other hand, has other things on his mind. Remembering a time when his father demands that Ryo not read a manga book and instead read a book on martial arts, Ryo recalls refusing to do it. That night, Nozomi considers what if Ryo decides to not go to university and is then called by her mom that she has a call from her father. Elsewhere, Charlie and his goons talk about their encounter with Ryo and how to use it to their advantage against the Chens. The two tall muscular men that Ryo beat up from before then vent their rage against Ryo and Charlie overhears them and off them a job.
The following day, Yamagishi visits the Hazuki Residence and pays his respect to Iwao, but also notes to Ine-sane and Fuku-san about his concern for Ryo. Mainly because he's trying to dig up his father's past. Fuku-san, however, believes that Ryo has the right to seek out the truth concerning his father. At an arcade, the two tall muscular men approach Ryo to the place where Charlie is supposed to be at. Led to a construction site, Ryo's ambushed by Charlie and his goons, and after he's restrained by the goons and his father's letter in Charlie's hands. Ryo, breaks free from his captors and beats the goons up, this causes the two tall muscular men to flee the scene and they run past Yamagishi who overhears them talking about a "schoolboy" using irregular karate. Realizing they're talking about Ryo, Yamagishi reaches the site where Ryo was at and witnesses him take out Charlie. Shigeo then overhears Ryo's conversation with Charlie about how his father was accused of killing a man named Lan Di's father. So now, Ryo wishes to exonerate his name, hearing that Yamagishi stops eavesdropping on the conversation and Charlie reveals what he knows about the man he's targeting. Unbeknownst to the two, Chai was there and listening in on their conversation.
At the park, Ryo finds Yamagishi there with a jar full of sake, to which, he claims he's enjoying a drink with his father. He then reveals that he himself used to study martial arts that his father often asked him for advice on martial arts. Noting that his father kept a lot of his "faces" hidden from him, Yamagishi advises Ryo to visit a pottery shop in town where its owner can read the contents of the letter. Before Ryo leaves, Yamagishi teaches Ryo some forms of martial arts to Ryo. Meanwhile, Shenhua recites the poem about the Phoenix and the Dragon while standing on top of a rock and gazing at the sun descend over the horizon.
