Dignified (凛乎, Rinko) is the sixth episode of Shenmue the Animation. It first premiered on Crunchyroll and Adult Swim on March 13th, 2022.
Plot[]
Seeking the truth behind the murder of his father, Ryo travels to Hong Kong and seeks out a man named Lishao Tao. It's there that his belongings are stolen and after wandering the streets of the place, he meets a man named Jainmin Tao practicing Tai Chi in a park. This leads Ryo to start sparring with the man.
Summary[]
Riding the boat to Hong Kong, Ryo looks at the photo of his father and friend Sunming Zhao and reflects on everyone and everyone that he's met and done to get up to that point. Finally reaching his destination, a Lady riding a motorbike nearly hits him and advises him as a foreigner to be wary of pickpockets. While where he has to go, Ryo is met by a boy who asks to save him from three punks named Sam, Larry, and Cool Z. This, however, was a diversion so that his bag could be stolen by the boy, and the group escaped with his bag.
Afterward, Ryo reports this to the local cops and when informs them that he hasn't found a place to stay, the cop asks him to find a place and report back to him when he does. In all of the places that Ryo tries to find a place to stay, none of them are vacant. Hence, Ryo asks around for information on the person that Master Chen suggested he find, Lishao Tao. During his search, he finds an old man practicing Tai Chi in Lotus Park and after deducing that Ryo is a martial artist, the two briefly spar. After this, Ryo asks him for directions to the Yan Tin Apartments and the old man gives him directions to the place. There, Ryo learns from the lady there that Lishao doesn't live there anymore and should head to Man Mo Temple. At the temple, Ryo approaches a woman praying there and claims she doesn't know of Lishao Tao. A monk working at the temple then approaches Ryo and he shows him the letter of introduction from Master Chen. The monk, however, refuses to allow him an audience with Lishao Tao as he's not ready to see him and should come back again another time.
Just outside of the temple, Ryo talks with the woman and learns that she prays there to have a wish of hers granted. In turn, the woman notes that Ryo's eyes tell her that he desires something that he blindly seeks and that in doing so would have him lose sight of what really matters. Returning to the park, the old man learns from Ryo that he's seeking Lishao Tao and decides to show him the Iron Palm move. He offers to give Ryo a hint to where the location of Lishao Tao is if he manages to cover the ground with leaves after using the Iron Palm move on the fire tree there. Ryo gives it a shot and only manages to get a single leaf to fall on his first try.
Elsewhere, the lady named Joy meets with the thief boy that Ryo encountered that day named Wong who informs her his successful thief earlier that day was a waste. Apparently, all of the stuff that he stole from the person had nothing but junk in it and the man was Japanese. Back to Ryo, who struggles to meet the requirements of what he's was asked to do by the old man. Ryo is told by the said old man that there is no "Instant ramen" equivalent to the martial artists in Hong Kong and leaves him. Those words make Ryo reflect on his training with his father in his youth. This makes Ryo resolved to continue trying until that night when he's met by Joy who helps him against a couple of brutes that wanted to fight him. From Joy, Ryo learns about Wong and his backstory of trying to survive the streets of Hong Kong. This also stands for practically everyone living in Hong Kong. Thanks to Joy, Ryo finds a place to stay, and meanwhile, Shenhua with her little goat look at a tree with a swing attached to it.
The following day, Ryo continues practicing his Iron Palm technique on the tree and makes progress with his task. He learns from the old man the style the move is derived from and how it's a combination of force and gentleness. Later, Ryo meets with Joy and after convincing her to tell him the whereabouts of Wong. After confronting Wong, he leads Ryo on a wild goose chase until he leads him to the three thugs who stole from him. Ryo handily deals with the group and later Wong returns his bag to Ryo.
Eventually, Ryo manages to complete the task given to him by the old man who mentions that he has a knack for Wude and recites one of the four principles to it. Ryo then informs the old man of the fighting style he uses. Soon after, Ryo runs into Joy who thanks him for living up to his promise when facing off against Wong and his group. At the Man Mo Temple, Ryo visits the place again and recites the first principle of Wude to the man at the temple. Furthermore, Ryo tells the man that he's looking for someone named Yuanda Zhu in hopes to learn why his father was killed. The woman from the temple is then revealed to be Lishao Tao who once again claims that the path that Ryo walks will be a perilous one. Meanwhile, Wong and the gang report to an elusive man about Ryo who takes an interest in him.
