Guangji Wang (Hànzì: 王高基, Pinyin: Wáng Gāojī, On'yomi: Wan Kōki) is an apprentice working at Ajiichi Chinese Restaurant in Dobuita, Yokosuka, Japan in the game Shenmue.
Biography[]
Guangji is an apprentice working at the Ajiichi Chinese Restaurant. In fact he is the second son of the owner of Hai Xian Jiu Jia, a restaurant in Hai Feng, Guangdong. Because he wished to be trained in Japan" (so he could go sightseeing) Wang was sent to Tao Duo Ji's Ajiichi Chinese Restaurant on his father's recommendation.
Because he spent too much of his money before he even left China, Guangji had to sell his plane ticket and buy a cheaper ticket for a ship instead. After a long journey, he finally reached Japan. Because he was raised a spoiled child, Wang is too dependent on others. He always goofs around on the job, taking too many breaks (usually drinking sodas and chatting) whenever he goes out for deliveries. For that reason, Tao, who is particularly strict about manners and service, often yells at him.
Guangji is also the twin brother of Guangyan Wang, who lives at the Yan Tin Apartments in the South Carmain Quarter, Wan Chai, Hong Kong in the game Shenmue II.
Shenmue[]

Guangji drinking a cola after Ryo buys him one.
Guangji usually hangs around the drink vending machine near Nagai Industries. When Ryo Hazuki approaches him, he says that he's thirsty but does not have any change to buy a drink. Ryo can choose to buy him a drink he recommends or not. If he does buy him a drink, he is very appreciative.

Guangji telling Ryo that he can't read the letter.
When Ryo is trying to find someone to translate the Chinese letter that was sent to his father, he can ask Guangji to translate it, if he asks Tao Duo Ji about the letter first. He recommends he asks Guangji, and he can be found standing by the drink vending machine as usual. Guangji could not translate it because the kanji is "weird" (Turns out the kanji characters were reversed) and suggests he asks his Japanese teacher Xiuyu Xia at Russiya China Shop. This only happens if Ryo buys him a drink this time. If he declines, he'll say that he doesn't have enough money to buy him a drink, even if he does have enough. He then asks him if he can translate the letter, and he says he can't, and does not refer him to Xiuyu.
Later on when Ryo is trying to find a cheap way to travel overseas, he can get the information about traveling by boat from Guangji instead of Nozomi Harasaki. He reveals that when he first came to Japan as an apprentice he came by boat.
Shenmue II[]
Although Guangji does not appear in Shenmue II, Ryo can meet his twin brother Guangyan Wang at the Yan Tin Apartments. He mistakes him for Guangji, but learns that he is in fact his brother.
Shenmue the Animation[]
