Takeshi Hirai (平井 武史 Hirai Takeshi) is the owner of MJQ Jazz Bar in Dobuita in the game Shenmue.
Biography[]
In the past, Takeshi was a bartender at a prestigious hotel in Yokohama. After arguing with a floor manager, he was fired and he returned to his hometown Dobuita, where he opened a bar called MJQ Jazz Bar where he can listen to his favorite jazz music while lavishing attention on his customers. The bar has had good reviews in the local press, so business has been thriving, although some customers ruin the atmosphere of the bar, which irritates Hirai to no end.
Etymology[]
- The name Takeshi means "military, martial" (武) (take) and "history" (史) (shi).
- Takeshi's surname Hirai means "flat, broad, level, even, peaceful" (平) (hira) and "well, mine shaft, pit" (井) (i).
Trivia[]
- Takeshi was actually based off a real person with the same name and appearance. In the real world, Takeshi "Tak" Hirai was the lead system programmer for Shenmue and Shenmue II and is credited as an "early contributor" in the credits for Shenmue III. While Takeshi in the game has a love for jazz music, the real Takeshi's favorite hobby is underwater photography. Hirai found his own company called Neilo in 2010. [1]
