Tao Duo Ji (Hànzì: 陶 多吉, Pinyin: Táo Duō Jí, On'yomi: Tō Takichi) is the owner of the Ajiichi Chinese Restaurant in Dobuita, Yokosuka, Japan in the game Shenmue. He is the husband of Tao Lin Xia.
Biography[]
Duo Ji is originally from Gaoxiong, Taiwan. When he was 15 years old, he started working as an apprentice chef at a place called Hai Jiu Jia in Hai Feng, Guangdong, China. At the age of 22, he came to work at the Ma Ming Lou, in Yokohama's Chinatown. The day he turned 26, he opened his own restaurant, the Ajiichi Chinese Restaurant, in Yokosuka. He met his wife, Lin Xia, while they were working at Bameirou together.
Duo Ji sometimes quarrels with Lin Xia who always dotes on Guangji Wang, his apprentice and delivery boy. He is very strict about discipline and this is reflected in his cooking. Although a bit stubborn, nevertheless, he is a good man by nature.
Shenmue[]
After Tom Johnson suggests that Ryo Hazuki ask Chinese people about Lan Di's whereabouts, he visits Duo Ji and Lin Xia at the Ajiichi. They say they don't really know the new Chinese people in the area, since there's so many compared to before. They tell Ryo about the Three Blades which literally refers to three different blades that represent three different trades: barbers, cooks and tailors whom all use bladed tools. Most Chinese people who came to Japan were one of the three. They refer Ryo to local Three Blade members in the area to refer him to other Chinese people.
When Ryo is looking for someone to translate the Chinese letter sent to his father, he can ask Duo Ji and Lin Xia to translate it. They cannot read it due to the kanji being old and written in an unusual way. They suggest he ask their apprentice Guangji for help.
Shenmue the Animation[]

Duo Ji along with Lin Xia very briefly appear in Shenmue the Animation Episode 2. When Ryo is looking for someone to translate the Chinese letter that was sent to his father, he asks Duo Ji and Lin Xia at the Ajiichi, and they can't read it.
In Episode 1, Ryo and Nozomi Harasaki eat at the Ajiichi for lunch, but Duo Ji and Lin Xia don't appear.

- Duo Ji's zodiac sign is Aries and he has a B blood type.
- In the Japanese version of Shenmue, Duo Ji speaks in a very thick Chinese accent.
- Duo Ji's Japanese voice actor in Shenmue is Masayuki Kumagai, who also is the Japanese voice actor for Dou Niu in Shenmue II.
- Duo Ji's English voice actor in Shenmue is Guy Perryman, who also is the English voice actor for Ichiro Sakurada and Hitoshi Numakubo in the game. He also is the English voice actor for Yongmin Wen in Shenmue II, although this role was uncredited.
